Security in Connecticut

Connecticut is located in the north east region of the United States, which is better known as New England. Hartford is the capital and largest city in Connecticut, and it is also the most densely populated area. Statistics have put Connecticut as the fourth most densely populated state in the country, along with being the 29th most populated. Chances are that you will find busy cities throughout the state, meaning that opportunities for security jobs should be wide ranging. Living in Connecticut is a great experience. Most of the cities are a great mix between an urban setting and suburban surroundings. Hartford can get very lively, but it has nothing on the crowded nature of New York, Boston, or Los Angeles.

There are various security jobs available in Connecticut, depending on your qualifications and areas of interest. A security engineer is likely to make between $70,000 to $80,000 per year, with the higher salaries likely to be in the Hartford area. A security guard for a company or small business would expect to make between $25,000 to $35,000 per year. Those who complete their bachelor’s degree are likely to have the opportunity to get jobs as a chief security officer, with the pay being at around $100,000 per year.

When you are applying to college in Connecticut, it may be a good idea to assess the nature of security jobs in cities surrounding your college. Finding a job near to where you attend school is a lot easier than searching across the state.

Connecticut prides itself on offering great scholarships, grants, and student loan programs to help students complete their two year or four year college degrees. CHESLA, the Connecticut Higher Education Supplemental Loan Authority, is the primary source of funding for those who want to attend school in the state. Their scholarships and grants are both need and ability based. If you are someone from a low income family, you would immediately qualify for a loan. Similarly, top grades in high school and/or on your SAT exams will give you the shot at getting a merit based scholarship.

There are other grants and scholarships available through private lenders. Contact the colleges you are applying to for more information about these grants. Each college will have a financial aid department that provides you with all the information as you apply, and when you are accepted for admission.
