Oregon is located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. The state has a very diverse landscape that features the Pacific coastline, the Cascade Mountain Range, and many waterfalls and forests. Oregon’s temperatures can range depending on a location’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Most of the state has cold, snowy winters and hot, dry summers.
In July 2012, the population of Oregon was estimated to be 3,899,353, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Oregon is the 27th most populous state in the United States. The state’s largest city is Portland, which has a population of about 600,000 and is the 28th most populous city in the country. In 2012, CBS MoneyWatch named Portland one of the top 10 best places to retire in the United States. The population growth of Portland has been higher than the national average in recent years, a trend that is expected to continue for the next 50 years.
Security outlook in Oregon
In May 2012, about 7,390 security guards were employed throughout the state, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Most of those jobs were located in the Portland metropolitan area, which, combined with employment numbers for Vancouver and Hillsboro in Washington, had 5,420 security guards employed in May 2012.
